Privacy

Short version: we collect the bare minimum we need to run the site and the daily Golden Chip game. We don't sell your data, we don't run third-party advertising trackers, and we don't use marketing cookies. If that's enough detail, you can stop reading.
What we collect
- Your email — if you sign up for the weekly chippy round-up, or create an account to leave reviews and play the leaderboard.
- A display name — your chosen leaderboard nickname, or the part of your email before the @ if you don't set one.
- Your reviews and Golden Chip scores — stored alongside your account so we can show them on the site and your history page.
- Anonymous usage analytics — we use Plausible, which is cookieless and stores no personally identifying data. We see counts (page views, devices, referrers); we don't see who you are.
What we don't collect
- No advertising cookies.
- No third-party trackers (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no Hotjar, none of that).
- No precise location unless you tap "Near me" and grant the permission yourself; we use it only for that search, we don't keep it.
Cookies
We only set strictly-necessary cookies — the session cookie that keeps you signed in. Because that's the only category of cookie we use, we don't show a cookie banner (UK PECR / GDPR doesn't require consent for strictly-necessary cookies). If you sign out, the cookie goes with you.
Where your data lives
- Account + sign-in: Netlify Identity (Netlify, Inc., hosted in the US/EU).
- Reviews and Golden Chip scores: Supabase (hosted in the EU).
- Newsletter list: Netlify Forms (US/EU).
- Site files + analytics: Netlify and Plausible (EU).
We rely on the standard data-protection terms each of these providers offers.
How long we keep it
For as long as you keep an account. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove it and your associated reviews/scores within 14 days. The weekly newsletter list keeps your email until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your account and everything attached to it.
- Stop sending you the newsletter (the unsubscribe link in the email also does this).
Email hello@chipadvisor.uk and we'll get on it.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything that meaningfully affects what we do with your data, we'll update this page and date it at the top. Material changes (new categories of data, new purposes) get an email to newsletter subscribers.
